The Tetsubin Project

Project Team:

Project Leader: Professor Hans Stofer
Project Partner: Michael Rowe
Project Partner: Peter Musson
Project Partner: Patrick Letschka

Staff from the RCA will be visiting studios and companies in Japan, in order to observe traditional and industrial methods of tetsubin production. This will include situations where the technology has been passed down through generations of families for hundreds of years as well as factories exploiting modern developments related to the same basic process. Through this activity, they will gain an in-depth knowledge of the tetsubin process, by seeing it practised and by talking to the craftsmen who produce these remarkable metal objects.
