Students from across the globe graduate from the Royal College of Art with a wide range of talents and skills, and go on to create new work in a variety of impressive roles and companies around the world. Whatever your creative career aspirations, the RCA can help you realise them.

"I never thought I would build my own medical device start-up. That's one of the things that GID really shaped us to do; half of my class now have their own start-ups in different sectors. The training we had was very entrepreneurial. Every idea we proposed had to have a business case, we had to do financial projections, budgeting and then map out the partners that we would need in order to make that idea come to life commercially."

Hsin-Hua (Sheana) Yu: MA/MSc Global Innovation Design, 2015

"Studying at the RCA allowed me to work on my own ideas, developing my own approach to architecture and design. It was actively encouraged to develop your own unique processes, often with an experimental, multidisciplinary approach formed by being situated among art students. It is an environment which really prepares you to situate your work as a real practice, many of my peers are working on their own projects which were conceived at the RCA."

Eleanor Hill: MA Architecture, 2019

"My practice entirely exploded and expanded during my time on the Graduate Diploma. I came into the course as a live painter and by the time I graduated from it my practice included performance, sculpture, moving image and social art. Crucially, I connected deeply with my fellow Fine Art artists. The Grad Dip allowed me to develop my practice and a portfolio of works which has allowed me to seek opportunities which would not have been possible otherwise. It has given me a completely new lens and sense of confidence as an artist."

Dora Lam, Graduate Diploma Art & Design, 2021

Graduate outcomes

Our graduates work in a wide range of architecture, art, communication and design sectors, but are also found applying design thinking and creative leadership in industries such as:

  • Health and medicine
  • Consulting and professional services
  • R&D and science
  • Government and public sectors
  • Education
  • Technology
  • Consumer goods
  • Automotive
  • Banking and Finance

We asked our graduates how their RCA experience benefitted their careers:

  • 90 per cent of alumni (RCA alumni survey, 2019) feel that the RCA has had a positive impact on their career – they say this is down to the reputation of the College, the creative skills fostered here and access to a network of contacts.
  • Two-thirds (66 per cent average) of graduates since 2003 say they use the skills learnt at the RCA every day in their current role
  • Over 40 per cent of graduates since 2003 have gone on to launch their own businesses or to become independent professionals

You too could be part of our international network of creative individuals who have shaped, and continue to shape, the culture surrounding all of us.

Professional development

The Royal College of Art is committed to ensuring that our students are equipped with the skills they need to succeed.
