RCA’s new Executive Education spaces, Rausing Research & Innovation Building in Battersea

In autumn 2022 we were delighted to open our new state-of-the-art Executive Education facilities in Battersea and see a return to in-person courses. These facilities are located on the top floor of the RCA's Rausing Research & Innovation Building designed by Herzog & de Meuron and offer 360 degree views of London. The new event spaces are also in close proximity to eight floors of dedicated research facilities and expertise in inclusive design, materials science, soft robotics, advanced manufacturing, intelligent mobility, and AR & VR visualisation.

Here are some of the on campus Executive Education short courses and events we have hosted in our new spaces so far.

Marsha de Cordova, Open for Innovation Executive Education event

As part of the London Design Festival, the RCA Executive Education programme hosted Open for Innovation which brought together academics, business leaders, innovation managers, community organisations and designers, to discuss how design-led innovation, creativity and collaboration with universities can contribute to the current challenges of business and wider society.

“In Battersea we see the beginning of a new creative cluster with the campus of the world’s No. 1 Art & Design University as an anchor institution... The RCA is creating a space that encourages people to make connections, share ideas and network, with the possibility of establishing future collaborative projects.”

Bertelsmann: Service Design Workshop, 14–16 November 2022

RCA Executive Education Workshop

The RCA Executive Education team delivered a 1.5 day Service Design Masterclass led by Professor Clive Grinyer for the international media company Bertelsmann, who invited 20 delegates to join as part of their career development programme.

“The new space allows a wide range of different formats – from action oriented workshops to deep conversation in an intimate atmosphere – because it has been designed to be incredibly functional and flexible, plus it comes with the latest technical features you could wish for. The whole set up invited our participants to change perspectives and open their minds, and was greatly appreciated by all.”

Design Thinking and Innovation Masterclass in collaboration with the Design Museum, 17–18 October 2022

Design Thinking Masterclass Masterclass on campus October 2022

Over two days, the open Design Thinking & Innovation Masterclass took place at the RCA and the Design Museum; this combination of the world's leading museum devoted to contemporary design and the world's most influential postgraduate institution of art and design is unique.

“In the new RCA Executive Education spaces, we saw groups of international participants work together to apply design thinking methodologies through practical group work on projects such as world peace, farming, hospital ICU experiences, etc. Through a very hands-on approach, they experienced the incredible value Design Thinking brings to structuring ideation and innovation to create value.”

Elizabeth Coningsby Senior Learning Partnerships Manager, the Design Museum

“Uplifting open and light spaces with unique views over the city - the mix of open areas, workshop rooms and the balcony for chatting in the breaks kept the atmosphere dynamic and energetic. I made lots of connections for future collaboration…definitely one of the most effective networking events that I’ve ever been to.”

Rose Abdollahzadeh Director of Public and Social Impact, London Design Festival

“Being in this space enables learning about important topics like accessibility, inclusion, new ways to think, innovate or approach problems in society and on a global scale. The large windows, natural light, amazing view of London in the background, put us in the right place to feel inspired about the topics, reminding us of where we were – one of the biggest, most diverse cities in the world!...Having breathing spaces such as the outdoor balcony allowed us to put our thoughts together, talk to people, network and exchange contacts during breaks.”
