Dean of School's Welcome

Dr Adrian Lahoud, School of Architecture

The School of Architecture offers a unique depth of study into architecture and interior design as sites of invention and intervention. Our approach is relevant to the global social, political and cultural context of today, and invites informed speculation on the future.

What marks out the RCA as a distinctive environment for architects and interior designers are the opportunities it offers to realise live projects, and to work alongside designers and fine artists in a concentrated, postgraduate-only environment. Students from the School of Architecture may collaborate with students from the Schools of Material and Design in the workshops, or participate in AcrossRCA projects, drawing upon the expertise and facilities of fellow students from programmes as diverse as Sculpture, Textiles or Innovation Design Engineering.

Crucially, students benefit from the support of professional practitioners and are able to take part in industry-funded projects that often lead to production. The largely part-time staff are practising architects, including research fellows and visiting professors, and are all highly respected in their fields. Active in design practice, they bring their expert knowledge of contemporary design to the School. Individual students are assisted with bursaries and prizes related to their activities as well as sponsored internships, work placements and research projects. Student work is frequently exhibited at the RCA and in prestigious museums and galleries across London and abroad.
