Peter Russell-Clarke appointed as Chair of RCA USA Board of Trustees

The Royal College of Art USA Inc. (RCA USA) welcomes renowned Apple designer Peter Russell-Clarke as its incoming Chair and President.

Alumnus, and Chair of IDEO, Tim Brown CBE stepped down as Chair of the board of RCA USA as of April 2021. He remains actively engaged with the College through philanthropy, research and as a founding member of the RCA’s Alumni Council. 

Tim is succeeded by alumnus and veteran Apple designer Peter Russell-Clarke, who becomes Chair and President. Executive, entrepreneur, philanthropist and RCA supporter Caroline Grainge is stepping into the role of Deputy Chair. 

Tim Brown CBE said: ‘It has been an honour to serve as the Chair of RCA USA. I am very excited to hand the baton to Peter and look forward to seeing where he and the board take us in the coming years.’

In addition, alumni Francesca Amfitheatrof and Alastair Curtis are joined by Caroline Baumann and RCA Vice-Chancellor Dr Paul Thompson as Directors. Treasurer/Secretary, alumnus Professor Tony Jones, has also been reconfirmed in his post.

Peter Russll-Clarke joined the Board of RCA USA in 2015. He studied MA Industrial Design, graduating in 1993 and has since become a Visiting Professor at the College. He is renowned for his work as an Apple Industrial Designer and a long-term member of Sir Jony Ive’s elite design team. His name is on numerous Apple patents including the iMac, iPod Nano, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air

Peter Russell-Clarke said: ‘I’m excited to help the RCA provide an inspiring and creative environment, for all. The RCA has always been a vibrant place for new thinking within, and across, Art and Design. I’m keen that RCA USA works to provide students, no matter their economic, geographic, racial or personal background with an equal opportunity to benefit from the incredible teaching, facilities and relationships of the RCA.’
