Sun Aija (MA Information Experience Design) and partner Gong Yining have won the 2022 Lumen Prize HUA Award for the collaborative piece Melting Myth. Sun Aija and Gong Yining worked together exploring the increasingly melted boundaries between nature and industry through documentation and experimentation.

The Lumen Prize celebrates the very best art created with technology through a global competition. Since its launch in 2012, it has awarded more than US$100,000 in prize money and created opportunities worldwide for the artists who have been longlisted, shortlisted or won Lumen Awards.

The work looks at the symbiosis of artificial and natural life and how they intersect daily. It investigates the potential symbiotic relationship between human bodies and plants by creating a wearable device that would turn the behaviour of the body into the kinetic energy of plant irrigation whilst the plant could provide emotion regulation for the human body.

Julio Obscura (MA Digital Direction, 2022) and Buket Yenidogan (MA Information Experience Design, 2022) were shortlisted for their work in the categories of ‘Immersive Environment Award’ and ‘Student Award’.
