A selection of students and recent graduates from the RCA explore the ways in which we can draw up new contracts with the world around us.
The past year has brought into question the stability of the systems we depend on. Not just the technology we use, but also the most fundamental social constructs of family, community and state. Against a backdrop of an increasingly unstable political and economic landscape, a selection of students from the Royal College of Art explore different ways in which we might draw up new contracts with the world around us. These new contracts address subjects ranging from the relationship we have with the materials and resources we use; to the application of disruptive technologies in reshaping the physical world. They aim to reconsider the way we relate to one another, other non-human entities and the wider society as a whole. Also featured is ‘The New Extraordinary’; a studio project with our technology partner OPPO. OPPO invites students to look to the horizon of their creativity; to embrace a humanistic approach, to recognise the new normal and to imagine a new extraordinary.
