Shahrooz Shahin

  • Shahrooz Shahin is an experienced Robotics Engineer. She holds a Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Iran. Prior to joining the RCA Robotics Laboratory, she was a robotics researcher at the University of Tehran, where she worked on the design and control of a range of mobile robots, autonomous systems and robotics manipulators.

    Her areas of interest also include design and construction of bio-inspired soft robots as well as robotic sensing and vision for medical and industrial applications.

  • Biography

  • Shahrooz obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on Mechatronics in 2008 and her Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering in 2011, both from Sharif University of Technology, Iran. Her undergraduate final project was on the design and implementation of a five-degree of freedom articulated manipulator.

    Shahrooz was a Research Fellow and Instructor at the Human and Robot Interaction Laboratory of Tehran University, Iran from 2016 to 2019, prior to joining the Royal College of Art.

    Since 2011 she has gained valuable experiences in mechanical design, programming skills, modelling, control of dynamic systems and implementation of them on robots.

Research

Research interests

Shahrooz's areas of interest include mechanical design and construction of industrial systems and robots, image processing and object detection, path planning algorithms, robot mobility and manipulation, soft robotics, bio-inspired robots and medical robotics.

Current and recent research

Shahrooz Shahin is currently working on the Getting a Grip project, funded by EPSRC and UKRI.
