Sean Donahue is principal of Research Centred Design, a Los Angeles based design practice. The former Director of Research for the Humanities & Design Sciences at Art Center College of Design where he is now launching Media Design Matters, a new graduate degree track within Art Centers Graduate Media Design programme. The programmes mission is to develop a critical dialogue around design and social practice.

Biography

Sean's work consists of professional commissions, self-initiated research, design advocacy, education and publishing. He has accumulated a portfolio of projects that by their very execution question how and where design is able to make a significant contribution. His focus in moving from theory to practice has resulted in projects ranging from media impact studies for city development to hybrid languages for low and no-vision communities.
Show moreSean has lectured and published internationally on the practice of media design, design research and social practice. He has held workshops at Harvard, Cal Arts, IDEO and North Carolina State University where he was also the 2004 Designer-in-Residence.
Sean's recent work was included in the 2010 Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial Why Design Now?; the 2011 California Design Biennial Action/Reaction; The 2011 AIGA Design Educators Conference New Practices/New Contexts; Metropolis Books Design as Advocacy and The Journal of Biomedical Informatics, Idea Magazine.
