  • Dorothea Smartt, is an internationally respected poet/live artist. London-born with Barbadian heritage, her most recent publication, Reader, I Married Him & Other Queer Goings-On, “…is subversive, radical, and surprisingly panoramic...”. She was formerly an Attached Live Artist at the ICA, and has most recently held residencies in the USA (Texas), Scotland, and Barbados. She reads and performs internationally. The journey between her established practice of creative library/archival research and her resulting poetry/live art is her creative process. Her methodology, embraces “practices through which we come to know what we believe we know... [and] emotion is made to count in the knowledge process” [M. Jaqui Alexander]. Her poetry collection Ship Shape, is an ‘A’ Level English Literature title. In recognition of her contribution to British cultural life, she was nominated for a Barbados Golden Jubilee Award.
