Alon studied Product Design at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem, graduating in 2004. He graduated from the RCA in 2008 and has been living and working in London since.
His studio practice includes creating objects and commissioned installations, exhibition design and production in addition to his work in education.
To Alon, making is an important state of being, an essential part of being human. In the same way power is measured in horses and light is measured in candles, Alon’s design output is sometimes measured in manual labour; the act of making being key to the creative process.
This ethos celebrates the idea that we were Homo Habilis before we were Homo Sapiens, with making sometimes preceding thinking as both are used for shaping ideas.
Alon’s work and teaching promotes personal experimentation and openness to influences, persistence and reflection.
