Kensington refurbishment work

The College has also embarked upon a series of refurbishment works at our Kensington campus. These involve making essential repairs to some areas of our much-loved heritage buildings and improving our facilities for future generations of RCA students and staff.

What this means for you

During these works, we can expect some noise and alternative access routes at times, including doors and lifts, in our Kensington campus. We will strive to minimise disruption to our students where possible and all building and refurbishment activities undertaken are discussed and planned in advance with your programme team and RCASU.

Throughout the year we’ll be keeping our community fully up-to-date with any changes and listening to your feedback.

Accessibility

If you have an inclusion plan and have informed your Disability Advisor that you have accessibility needs, we will be in touch with you to discuss any additional mitigations we will put in place to support you.

We will work with you to make sure you can take part in your studies in a way that meets your needs.

If you have concerns about accessing or moving around the Kensington campus during this time, contact your Disability Advisor at [email protected].

Changes to our College-Wide units

We have made some changes to our College-wide units that are taken as part of our curriculum by all students across our MA programmes.

  • For the upcoming academic year, AcrossRCA will switch from being a 30 credit unit across Terms 1 and 2 and instead continue as a 15 credit unit in Term 1.
  • We have also added Core Skills, a new 15 credit unit in Term 2, which will be delivered specific to your programme.

These changes have been made in response to student feedback. Our College-wide units have been carefully designed to support interdisciplinary learning, as well as advance critical skills, to aid both your projects at the RCA and beyond in your professional practice and career.

WeI will share further information on this change in the coming weeks. Detailed descriptions of our curriculum, including the new College-wide units, are available on your programme page.

Updated School structure

Following an in-depth consultation process, the RCA will move to a three-School structure from September 2026.

This introduces a new School that broadly brings together programmes currently positioned in the School of Communication and the School of Design, alongside the existing School of Architecture and School of Arts and Humanities.

The new School, named the School of Communication & Design, is a fusion of communication and design practices, converging technologies, material-based pedagogies, innovation and skilled making.

This change will not affect your programme or your teaching in any way and our new School will continue to be led by Professor Kerry Curtis.
