  • Xi Jia’s interest lies in the structure of garments and its relevance to Chinese cultural identity. She first worked as a dress pattern maker in China soon after her graduation between 2005 and 2006.

Xi has believed that the dress makers’ pattern contains a different level of value beyond a technical aspect from the early stage of her Fashion study. She undertook an MA in Fashion at the University for Creative Arts, Rochester in 2008 and graduated with a distinction. She is influenced by the idea that the construction of garments reveals a cultural working method, which has been demonstrated through her practical work Silhouette in 2009.

She is currently exploring the idea of Chinese cultural identity from the perspective of Chinese fashion design and forming an understanding through the construction of dress at the Royal College of Art by a practice-based research degree.
