The RCA and Norwich University of the Arts have entered into a historic agreement to establish jointly awarded undergraduate degrees, creating a new model of creative higher education collaboration in the UK.

The partnership represents the only current opportunity to study undergraduate degrees awarded by the Royal College of Art, the world’s leading art and design university and a specialist postgraduate institution. The aim is to strengthen academic quality and support regional growth which will open new routes to postgraduate study and reinforce the UK's global leadership in creative education.

Under the agreement, Norwich University of the Arts will deliver undergraduate degree programmes in Norwich that are jointly validated through shared academic frameworks, drawing on the RCA’s internationally recognised academic standards while retaining Norwich’s distinctive creative culture, studio-based pedagogy and regional impact. The RCA will provide additional quality assurance and enhancement activities for students embedded within the curriculum - for example, masterclasses, work on live briefs, Show visits and guidance on progression to postgraduate study.

The RCA has maintained its position as the world’s number one art and design university in the prestigious QS Subject Rankings for 12 consecutive years (2015–2026). It is a postgraduate-only institution, with around 2,500 students. Norwich University of the Arts brings to the partnership a strong and distinctive academic profile. It is the only specialist creative arts university to hold Triple Gold status in the Teaching Excellence Framework, recognising outstanding performance in teaching quality, student experience and graduate outcomes. With around 3,000 students, it is also consistently ranked among the UK's leading specialist arts universities.

Further information on the new jointly awarded degree programmes will be shared later this summer, with the first intake joining Norwich University of the Arts planned for September 2027.

Earlier this month the RCA announced four new partnership agreements with other leading UK and Irish creative education institutions - establishing a new network designed to increase access to university study and build educational collaboration in art and design disciplines across the UK and Ireland. The partnerships with Arts University Plymouth, Birmingham City University, Leeds Arts University and the National College of Art and Design (Dublin) include areas such as undergraduate and postgraduate teaching alignment, and application guidance and financial support for postgraduate study. In addition, they explore areas of further collaboration, including research, knowledge exchange, doctoral training, staff and technical exchange, and supporting civic and creative ecosystems.
