The Council of the Royal College of Art (RCA) has announced the renaming of the Sackler Building, based in Battersea. The building will now be known as the Painting Building.

This decision follows discussion with the donor and a process of review and consultation at Council, the governing body of the institution.

Two gifts were formally accepted by Council in 2009 and 2016 from the Sackler family, both in line with the College's Gift Acceptance Policy. Since 2017, the RCA has operated under an updated Gift Acceptance Policy, which continues to be reviewed regularly, most recently, by Council in 2021.

The donation, recognised through the naming of the Sackler Building in 2009, was made to support new student studios and facilities. A donation in 2016 was also received from The Sackler Trust to support student teaching and facilities in the new RCA Battersea campus. This latter donation was not recognised with any naming rights.
