This Autumn, The Big Draw celebrates 25 years of the joy of drawing in a month-long multi-site festival ‘Drawn Together’.
This open access workshop is FREE to join and no booking is required. Art materials, inspirations and an awesome Halloween playlist will be provided. Led by Sarah Staton, RCA Sculpture Senior Tutor, and supported by students from the Sculpture programme. Drawing is a core activity for Sarah and she encourages her students to build up the habit of drawing: drawing as a form of note-making, as a shorthand for sculpture and painting, an aid to memory and as a rich discipline in its own right.
Participating in The Big Draw gives us at the RCA the opportunity to celebrate drawing in its widest and wildest sense—not just as marks on paper, but as a way of thinking, planning, observing, moving through space, leaving traces, experimenting with materials and technologies, and connecting with others. Drawing can take countless forms: we draw on paper, canvas, walls, on screens, with light, with water, spaghetti, thread, or even with the humble pencil.
Spooky Skies, Drawn Together, invites you to expand your creative practice by exploring how drawing can become a method for discovery, communication, and collaboration. Opening up space for shared imagination around our spooky thematic, the workshop offers a space to explore how creativity can help us connect—with each other, with our environment, and with our dark imaginaries.
Join us in celebrating drawing as a universal language: limitless, playful, and open to everyone.
