Beyond Surface is a multi-part event, a festival of new work by artists studying for our MA Contemporary Art Practice. The festival involves collaborations with external partners and institutions, delivering a varied programme of artistic intervention, new writing and sound experiments. Engage with us and reward yourself with new perspectives on the edge of our known universe.

Launching on Monday 27 March with the Platforms Symposium in the Gorvy Theatre, on Tuesday 28 March we will be streaming Beyond Surface Radio on Montez Press, the experimental broadcasting and performance platform (London, NYC, Hamburg). On Friday 31 March CAP artists will be presenting workshops, performance and film across 3 levels at Tate Modern for Beyond Surface: Tactile Presence at TATE Modern Lates, inspired by the work of Maria Bartusová. It is the first time that Tate has collaborated with an art school for the Tate Lates events.

In the summer we will be launching Glimpse the CAP Festival Publication. In the lead up to this launch, please join us for the fundraising performance and sound events Glimpse1 and recombinator at Staffordshire St Gallery on 5 and 6 April and Glimpse2 hosted by The Ivy House Nunhead on 20 April. The profits of the Glimpse publication will be donated to the Turkey/Syria earthquake humanitarian relief efforts.

Beyond Surface, Hazel Jiao

“Beyond Surface, a place past the limits of tactility. We ask what happens outside the immediacy of experience, in the grasping difference between imagination and hallucination. As bodies facing bodies we’ve hit the edge of what sensation allows, what’s here now is the remainder. The vestural remains of a once embodied feeling, the static electricity of collapsed nerve endings reformed into a shockwave of new relations.”
