  • Dr Shehnaz Suterwalla is a Tutor in History of Design at the Royal College of Art. Her research investigates how British women since the 1970s have used dress to resist dominant ideals of femininity. Shehnaz’s current research projects concern gender, identity and digital subjectivity.

  • Biography

  • Previously Shehnaz worked at Newsweek International and then at The Economist. Shehnaz has published in Global Design History (Routledge, 2011), Oral History in the Visual Arts (Bloomsbury, 2013) and Women's Studies Quarterly. She has presented at various conferences and symposia including ‘The Postmodern Legacy’ (V&A, 2011) and the Design History Annual Conference (Ahmadabad, India, September 2013; San Francisco 2015). In November 2014 she co-organised a symposium with the ICA in London entitled 'Authenticity & 'Real'? Body’. She is editor of the ‘Design History of Now’ blog for 2015–16.
