Deming is a London-based artist, poet and publisher working across mixed-media installation, sculpture, painting, moving image and writing.

Deming received his BA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts and his MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art. He is a multidisciplinary artist interested in sculptural storytelling through mise-en-scène and queer poetics. His debut poetry collection, Vers Aloe, was published in 2023, with a launch at Donlon Books. Huang also founded Overwhelm Press in 2023 – an artist-led, independent publisher focused on the work of queer, transgender, and artists and writers of colour.

In his research, Deming focuses on queer poetics, navigating between the human mimicry of nature and the psychoanalytic dimensions of imaginative reconfiguration. His work investigates how individuals are shaped, sometimes subtly, sometimes forcefully, by their surroundings and by narrative, and the urgency of making those stories both heard and felt.

He is also interested in applying Félix Guattari’s The Three Ecologies to both publishing and exhibition-making, treating the mise-en-page as a structure for reflecting everyday life and recovering what has been obscured or forgotten.

Using construction materials and natural objects, Deming’s practice explores material speculation across the thresholds of hard and soft, physical and metaphysical, natural and artificial. Rooted in personal experience, his work draws from a childhood spent between countries and islands – growing up on mobile construction sites, while his mother’s garden offered a quiet refuge for his spectrum condition. His practice unfolds as a form of self-dialogue and poetic introspection, connecting personal history to the broader conditions of Asian queer diasporas and the discourse of biopolitics.
