'Surfaced' speaks to what arises from the deep thinking and material experimentation of the doctoral research process.

PhD research is required to bring new knowledge to a topic: to surface unspoken truths, share esoteric findings and contribute towards new ways of thinking and doing things.

'Surfaced' invites artist-researchers from the School of Arts and Humanities to show their most recent research in the annual PhD exhibition curated by Beaconsfield. Some researchers are at the end of their journey while others right at the beginning. The works in this 2025 Beaconsfield exhibition have been selected to reveal the processes of surfacing new ideas and materialities in the field of contemporary art and design.
