YiMiao is a practising visual artist. Her work is concerned with expanded drawing/illustration practice through material exploration.

YiMiao is an associate lecturer on the MA Visual Communication course at the RCA, and a Lecturer on the MA Illustration and Visual Media course at London College of Communication, UAL. She is currently part of the Barbican Art Trust Group Studio members and is one of the Advisors to Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration.

YiMiao’s work brings a sharp wit and keen eye for contemporary cultural and social issues to her creative process. She works across drawing, embroidery, wood, and metal. YiMiao describes the core of her practice as contemporary ‘embroidery- drawing’: she works innovatively with a domestic sewing machine and hand sewing and mimic the hand-drawn movement with stitched marks.
