Update you browser

For the best experience, we recommend you update your browser. Visit our accessibility page for a list of supported browsers. Alternatively, you can continue using your current browser by closing this message.

As a former student at the RCA, we are writing to you regarding your ShowRCA profile.

Currently, you can browse ShowRCA profiles for graduates between 2007–2019 at www.rca.ac.uk/showcase/show-rca

These profiles sit on an old website that needs to be decommissioned by the end of November 2023, as it no longer meets the legal accessibility standards for public sector websites, and as an out-of-date site, is vulnerable to web security issues.

We know this content is important to you, so the RCA has investigated many potential solutions to make sure these pages are not lost. We will therefore be creating a new static but searchable archive of these ShowRCA profiles. This is the most effective long-term solution to ensure continued public access to view this material, within legal and cyber security requirements.

Your profile will still be available to the public, and via Google Search. For more information on how this will work, please see the FAQs at the end of this email.

What you need to do:

As a graduating student during these years, you likely have a live webpage at www.rca.ac.uk/showcase/show-rca/

If you want to remove any details from your page before we archive it, please email your request to [email protected] by 31 October 2023. Include details of the changes you'd like made.

Once the ShowRCA profiles have been archived and the remainder of the legacy website has been decommissioned at the end of November 2023, there will be no further opportunities to make changes to your profile.

If you're happy for your ShowRCA profile to be archived as it is, there's no action needed on your part.

Thank you.

Frequently asked questions

Yes - please email your request to [email protected] by 31 October 2023.

Your profile is part of the digital show catalogue for your graduating year. As such, images and information should relate to your final project, and not to any work you've completed since graduating.

We will set up redirects for all existing profile URLs. The URL for your original profile will still work, and will take web users to an index of the archive.

No - but we will have an index on the RCA website listing all students, with a link to their archived profile.

Yes - all existing images and text content will be archived. Any images that were part of a carousel will appear in the archive as separate items.

We won't be able to edit text or images in an archived profile. After the deadline, the only change we can make is to remove an archived profile completely.

The archive will be accessible to the public.

We will use the Internet Archive's Archive-IT web archiving service, a product that the RCA already uses to archive its web presence.

Material archived via Archive-It is stored in not-for-profit data centres independently owned and operated by the Internet Archive, and is available for users to download themselves for additional preservation and sharing. Together, Archive-It users and the Internet Archive are furthering the shared ethos of ensuring perpetual access to diverse, cultural, and historically-relevant digital collections from around the world.
