The College's digital editing suites and software training facilities are part of a new department within Technical Services called Media & Smart Technology. There are hubs based in both Kensington and Battersea.
The digital editing suites are open to all Royal College of Art students for any 2D digital video projects. There are a combination of high powered PC and Apple workstations, all fully networked and equipped with high-end video-editing and image-manipulation software. Each workstation comes complete with full audio capability.
A variety of standard software packages and video formats are supported, from which projects can be originated and to which they can be transferred. These rooms are at times available without booking on a first come, first served, drop in basis and are designed to support a wide range of specialist requirements.
The Smart Zone
The Smart Zone hosts both general and specialist digital training facilities, including demonstration, projection, video, audio and mechatronics equipment.
It boasts a mixture of soft 'breakout' spaces and more purpose designed areas that include bench areas with extraction for small electronics work and more formal training spaces equipped with both PC and Apple computers hosting a wide range of software applications (for moving image, print and programming).
