RE-TELLING
“Someday all museums will become department store and all stores will become museums.” - Andy Warhol.
In recent years, online shopping is becoming a rising issue for the retail industry. As people find themselves closed up at home not wanting to go out because of the convenience of buying products online. The situation allowes designers thinking what could potentially be done to solve this problem.
Now the project is starting from the foresighted revolution of the retail system, and the museum system might be rewritten through the revolution at the same time. For the future Shopping-Museum system, I am investigating to combine the concept as " The third Place" into the scheme. People are not shopping and looking at displays on purpose in a few certain spots. Instead, the products consuming and museum educating process will be broke down into local communities in the city.
For my Retail scheme, I am curating the second-hand objects as products.
The retail products are receiving from the open public. Any visitors could bring their second-hand objects to the scheme. Space will help to prepare the second-hand objects ready to sell by wrapping the objects with the pre-owners’ personal stories and memories. After being packaged in the upper “curation” space, the products will be displayed in the shops according to their catalogs. People have the freedom to read the stories, look at the old products as they share the same ‘spirit’ from the museum objects, and plus people can buy all the products.
Coming from work or home, walking into a local environment, sit down, look at high-quality vintages and read some stories behind them, plus we can have a coffee and meet our friends.
