LOVE MYSELF, FACE MYSELF
Who am I?
Can I face myself?
Do I love myself?
Can I love myself?
The collection started from my own story. I used to train as a dancer when I was young, but in my country people always think that people who dance should be as slim and beautiful as they'd like. I was so afraid of looking in the mirror because I was always the only different one in my dance studio. I tried to hide behind others and always looked at the floor. The only thought I had was of breaking the mirror in front of me – I didn’t want to see myself.
This collection is all about mirrors. Each mirror contains one story of mine – how I try to love myself. This collection is a process and a record of how I try to love myself. 'THE MENDING BROKEN MIRROR PROCESS CAN BE REGARDED AS THE PROCESS OF MENDING MYSELF'. I'm not trying to teach people how to love themselves, but hope people can identify with my work and find their own ways to love themselves.

Yutian Zhang (Tanya) is a Chinese designer and jeweller. She studied for a Bachelor's degree in Fashion & Fashion Accessary Design and for a Master's degree in Jewellery & Metal at the Royal College of Art. Her works always explore human life and society. She aims to make cured jewellery and believes jewellery can become a meaningful object with the potential to comfort and heal people. She likes to start from real life and real stories, breaking the inherent concept that jewellery only pays attention to value and beautiful design, hoping to inject stories into the design itself. What she looks for is the unique story that takes place when jewellery enters a person’s life. When this happens, jewellery is no longer just a decoration, but a symbol of life.
