Yinan Zhang

I am an artist from China. After completed my BA in Printmaking at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, I moved to London in 2011. I am practicing in photography, performance, moving image and mixed media.

When I was a little girl I assumed a strange paradox: Is the world I am living in real? It is because all the things I saw was only from my own eyes, and I could not see them and prove them in another perspective, so it was impossible for me to prove whether they were real. Although at the beginning this thought scared me, since then I've decide to record or draw all the things that I could saw from my eyes. This is always the trigger of my practice.

I not only focus on social issues, but also express my own concerns. I always have concerns about the existence of myself, others and the outside world. Therefore in my work there's always a struggle between the reality and dream, the truth and lie, the real and fake. In my works, I create a combination of imagination and reality.
