The Democratic Dance Venue
A childhood surrounded by ballet and dance inspired the creation of a lightweight, transportable, mobile structure that can be used as a rehearsal and performance space that brings dance to a wider audience in public places.
The nature of the programme demands the creation of a flexible space that can be used for rehearsals, performances, exhibitions and promotional events. The structure’s components are delivered to the site by lorry, and consist of a floor, tripod supports, an inflatable roof and flexible curtain walls. The structure can be assembled in a variety of locations, including public plazas, parks and shopping centres and, it is intended that through exposure to dance at these informal events curiosity and interest may be ignited leading to increased attendance at more formal performance venues.
