Lonely Elderly Chinese and Interior Design: The Case of Interior Design Projects for the Elderly

Finding peace and contemplation in the process of making tea.

Defined as a temporary pavilion, the project is based in central London and aims to provide an opportunity for the massive amount of tourists and local people who do not belong to a religion but still need a secular place for self-reflection and contemplation. The project is inspired by and focused on the process of making tea, because of its power to calm and relieve.

By researching the significance of a conventional British tea chest, the project is featured on several crossed boxes comprised of bespoke materials. Through applying the smell of tea and a lighting control system on lower floors, two levels of experience are provided by the project through the concept of crepuscular moments. As a part of the experience, and for display purposes, a place is found for a tea-making workshop as well as a space in which to enjoy the tea itself.

The whole journey of the project starts from a crowded and chaotic street and ends with a pure and simple natural atmosphere provided by a garden on the other side of the site.
