The Soloist

The Soloist is a virtual reality interactive animation/game, which discusses the reason for the improper perception of introversion, and the consequences of it; based on my experiences as an introvert and my researches in introversion and extroversion.

Unlike conventional animation, The Soloist transforms the audiences into actors/players, allowing people to act as the main character – an introvert – in an immersive way. The player of The Soloist gets to decide whether to eat alone or eat with people, to work alone or to work with people, and so on. Different choices could earn different scores, with the whole purpose of the game being to get as many points as possible.

There will be a voiceover guiding the player to make choices. During the play, conflicts might happen between the player and the voiceover, as the guidelines given by the voiceover is not always good for the player – just like people around introverts do not always give them the right suggestions. With a much more immersive experience of life as an introvert, The Soloist should make the player understand introversion better.

  • I am an animation director, game director, and digital artist from Shanghai, China. I am also an introvert. I use a mix of frontal technology to narrate my experience and understanding of my surroundings. I am especially interested in experimenting with animation and games, to challenge, to blur, and to merge the boundaries in between, creating new ways of narrating.
