Orchis and Stoke Junkie

Stoke Junkie

Mah Soon and YY spend their retirement days doing Tai-Chi and body-building, drinking whisky, watching Tarzan and poking fun at each other, until an accident happens that alters their lives deeply. The 27 minute film is a portrait of aging bodies, cultural beliefs and dealing with tragedy.

Orchis

On the walls are printed objects which form a response to themes from within the film: masculinity and loss of masculinity, femininity and body parts, touch, humour, preoccupation with euthanasia and death. These prints, objects and books spring from an investigation into the word "Orchis" which is the Greek word for testicle. That such a lavishly feminine flower comes from a masculine shaped object is the unifying theme of the work in the Orchis series.
