three-way gap [can’t remember when I broke grandmother’s comb]
three-way gap [can’t remember when I broke grandmother’s comb]
I collect broken and found objects,
to recall fragmented memories.
I am exploring the gaps that lie between them and creating imagined reminiscences in those spaces
which allows me to leap forward,
however, I know they will stay forever unfixed.
The objects I create may no longer be functional,
but they have become my poetry,
they represent the outward projections of my "interior".
I want to create an on-going space that contains these objects,
I call it home for them
and for myself.
My work explores two aspects of transformation,
one is growth, the other disappearance.
The two concepts exist together in harmony.
My work reflects on the nature of these forces and the systems that utilise them. I play the role of the owner of the system, the catalyst, and sometimes, the subject.
Materials, objects and the images serve as a record and as metaphors,
which allow us to speak to and from our collective experience.
The use of humour in contrast with melancholy is important within my work, so through my exploration of the subject matter, I’m also aiming to create work that makes us think and smile. Ultimately I’m striving to create work that is a balance of poetry and intelligence.
