How Can the Triangle Inform Interior Design?

My thesis design project is concerned with developing an understanding of the triangle and how this shape can be used to create and define interior space. The triangle is of interest as the first shape – three points connected by three lines presenting the most efficient means of enclosing space. This can be seen as the first definition of that which is ‘in’ from that which is ‘out’.

The work develops themes explored in my dissertation concerning how design learns from nature. A particular influence has been the ability of cellular structures to endlessly repeat, expand and grow – triangles in general, and the equilateral triangle in particular, facilitate the creation of modular systems that can tessellate and continuously reproduce and develop.
