'Back in School' is a collaborative film exploring deconstructed theatre and performance techniques. During an intensive cabaret course I was invited to take part in, I observed certain constructs of a theatrical spectacle. I felt it relied on the charisma and wit of the performers, basic props, and humorous accidents.

In the film I show the agency of the performers in ad-libbing when the direction is minimal, allowing awkwardness and humour to unfold, whilst simultaneously showing the tightly structured 'tableau vivant' technique.

I met the performers - Molly Carroll, Loose Baker, and Hugo Danino at the cabaret course, and performed with them at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club. For this film, I selected them for their comedic style and dynamism, and took on the role of director and photographer.

  • I am an image maker and a performer. My practice covers print, moving image, cabaret, installation, and emails.

Humour, glamour, satire and anxiety are the themes I address in my work. I use found objects, acrylic and glitter. My work is often funny, hyper pink, and quietly violent. I am interested in the ritual of ablutions and the gallows humour of joke-shop knives.
