MA work
My curatorial interest lies in stimulating the development of new discursive spaces that allow for reflection and dialogue. I am interested in the ways art can intervene in the social fabric of society to stimulate challenging investigations of aesthetic, social and political transformations. In 2010, I co-edited an issue of Hjärnstorm, a periodical for cultural critique, focusing on Art & Animals. I am currently co-curating first-year RCA Photography students at Folkestone Triennial, June 2011.

During my first year I worked at artist-run East Street Arts in Leeds, establishing Union 105, a new community-focused art space in Chapeltown. This allowed the curation of smaller-scale exhibitions, the initiation of a residency programme and the realisation of artists’ professional development programmes.

I spent my second year as curatorial fellow at Autograph ABP in London. I worked with the co-ordination and production of off-site projects and commissions by artists including Shemelis Desta and Pablo Bartholomew. My main focus has been the exhibition and public programme for 2011, opening with a solo exhibition by Rotimi Fani-Kayode and an archival exhibition, Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America. I attended Photographers’ Portfolio Meeting workshop during Addis Foto Fest in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. There I met 15 artists from the continent to review portfolios.
