Satin Construction and Drape

My work is a response to the potential of materials and techniques in both textiles and ceramics.

In woven textiles I explore machine and structure abilities.

It is important to justify in which ways and why I use the tools I use, trying to include their specific characteristics. Why am I weaving this? Not knitting, not printing it?

The fabrics of my graduation project were woven on a single repeat Jacquard loom at the TextielLab Tilburg (Netherlands) as part of the Young Talent Programme.

How do I use a single-thread-control loom for it’s abilities without weaving a picture?

I am guided by the weave structure throughout the construction of the weave draft. Construction and composition are intertwined.

Pattern and weave structure are indistinguishable in my fabrics.

Ceramics balance the planning of the weave-construction with hands-on physical making and a lot of chance throughout the process.

Ceramics are hugely concerned with surface just like textiles - which allows for connecting the two, applying sensitivity and observations from one to the other.

That is the starting point for all my projects in ceramics:
I work from within the ceramic process with a textile lens.

  • Ta'Yali's work is a response to the potential of materials and techniques in both textiles and ceramics.

Driven by the possibilities within making, they explore and question creative values of material - approached without limits, not set on an outcome.

Techniques and tools are well considered while the unpredictable plays a vital role.

Recording and observing both processes and feelings, Ta'Yali deliberately includes emotional valuing in their [re] search.
