    MA Ceramics & Glass, 2010

  • Sun Ae Kim became interested in ceramics, especially traditional Korean ceramics, at a very young age.

She studied ceramics at Hong-ik University in Korea before transferring to the School of Materials to complete her MA at the Royal College of Art, where she focused on eighteenth-century English and European ceramics. She graduated in 2010 with the degree show piece, Since Eve Ate Apples, Much Depends on Dinner.

After leaving the RCA, she co-founded Studio Manifold, a group of nine artists and designers who met in the Ceramics and Glass studio at the RCA.

Sun Ae has collaborated with Alexander McQueen for Paris Fashion Week 2011/12 and has exhibited her works in the UK and internationally, including shows at the Orange County Centre for Contemporary Art in LA and the Palais de Tokyo and Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris.

Currently, she is engaged in a practice-based research degree at the RCA, working under the title, ‘A Contemporary, Visual Interpretation of Social Issues through Ceramics Practice Informed by Early Nineteenth-Century English precedents’.
