Them Up There and You Stood Ere’
Them Up There and You Stood Ere’ tells
of the disparity between my heritage in the north of England and London’s
centralisation of wealth and self interest. A projection in the corridor, just
outside of the gallery space, records empty frames in Bradford with a voiceover
that directs the audience to take notice of “them up there” and directly
relating them to “you stood ere’ watching this”.
Take Two Parts talks of the same issue, using drawing rather than film. A stack of printed broadsheets discuss the beneficial act of drawing through the marks made, whilst simultaneously debating Bradford’s lack of wealth and London’s overwhelming supply. The audience are encouraged to takeaway the sheets and actively readdress the uneven distribution of marks by contributing their own on Bradford’s side.

I work with moving image and drawing to give meaning to non-meaning. Playing with how an audience can be drawn into a subject, not by spectacle or entertainment, but by stillness, lack of entertainment and the idea of boredom. Found banalities are framed to give significance and importance to the overlooked, whilst delivering a social comment.
