Mobile Pantry
Sooyang’s work focusses on the relationship between food and textiles in everyday life, and aims towards sustainability; ranging from installations to products that carry practical functions. She values traditional techniques and knowledge, and reinterprets them in a contemporary context.
Her final project, Mobile Pantry, suggests a sustainable, yet fun, way to keep food around us. Tackling supermarket culture and plastic packaging issues, this aims to take food out of the fridge and decorate our surroundings with food. It plays a role, not only as functional storage, but also a symbolic place for sharing food experiences and culture by integrating food knowledge, such as fermentation and drying.Â
This project covers concerns from environmental issues to cultural experiences, by using food as a metaphorical bridge to connect them.Â
