Take The Picture and Forget About It: Notes on the Photography of Homai Vyarawalla

A collection of essays on the photographs and life of India’s first female photo-journalist, Homai Vyarawalla. Vyarawalla passed away at the age of 98 in 2012, and her entire archive was donated to the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts in New Delhi. Vyarawalla left behind thousands of negatives that are still in the process of being digitised and catalogued. Before she was discovered again, she lived in anonymity for nearly two decades of her life, all but forgotten by the canon of photojournalism. This project takes form as a set of essays, of differing lengths, each maintaining a chief focus either on a single, or series of, photographs.
