Uncanny
Shuying explores concepts of human environmental connection, reflecting upon places that play upon the paradox of familiarity and a sense of un-belonging, using a synthetic and natural message experimenting with texture as well as exploring the unusual fabric behaviours of her knitted textiles. Through her exploration of structure and combining opposing fibres, Shuying seeks to ingrain human identity into fabrics. The outcome is a dishevelled elegance in a refreshing colour palette that both comforts and unsettles.

Shuying explores concepts of human environmental connection, reflecting upon places that play upon the paradox of familiarity and a sense of un-belonging, using a raw and natural message experimenting with texture as well as exploring the unusual fabric behaviours of her knitted textiles. Shuying’s works have a good combination of natural yarns and synthetic fibres to express this concept materially. The extraordinary structures, organic shape and innovative use of colour are her symbolic languages. The outcome is a dishevelled elegance in a refreshing colour palette that both comforts and unsettles.
