Illogical Logic
In times of instability and recession, as a society, we become a whole lot more superstitious. Rituals and irrationalities begin to emerge from the private sphere to infect larger and more surprising infrastructures. The US economy, for example, can lose up to $2.4 billion/year because of the fear of the number 13. The Design Research Platform looks at and investigates a world in which our superstitions start to control our actions and society. By extrapolating a trend in which our levels of superstition are rising, how can we cater for such irrationalities? This project proposes three suitable services:
A Superstitious Fund
A Manual for a Uncanny Trading Floor
How to Value a Ghost
The Superstitious Fund is a live one-year experiment that invites the audience to invest in an uncanny trading robot. So far investors from over 35 different cities around the world has invested over £3,500. The automated robot will trade and live on the stock market, purely on the belief of numerology and in accordance to the moon. At the end of the trading experiment, the value will be distributed back to the investors at a profit or loss.
