Knit/Weave
Towards the end of my first year at the RCA, I realised that I love both weaving and knitting. So I asked myself how would I bring them together. This is when I realised that I can bring my passion in both specialisms together and try to create something new.Â
For my final collection, I have been exploring the differences and similarities in woven and knitted fabrics in order to bring the two constructions together. I have been to the past three Pitti Filati Yarn Fairs to look at the latest yarn qualities and new developments. These experiences have given me the chance to experiment with different combinations of yarns. Along with the use of weave structures and knit stitches I have developed a collection of woven and knitted fabrics that work very innovatively together.Â
The reason that my collection is mainly monochrome is because I would like to keep the focus on the nature of the fibre and functionality of the fabric. At this stage I would like these material to be used in many contexts, including garments and accessories, but I can also see them being used in interiors and vehicles. My graduation show will be about showcasing the versatility of these fabrics.
