Memorial of the Forgotten
Digging the untold stories of the River Thames, there are hundreds of unfortunate souls found beneath the calm surface of the river. Quarter from the total amount of people that were reported missing under the UK Missing Person Bureau were found in the Thames that most of them are anonymous and unidentified. Since cremation and burial are against the law for unidentified bodies, the project starts to explore a beautiful way that these bodies could remain in the mortuary stacks forever still science can bring them back or science can answer their stories.Â
Using a disused pier in Greenwich, situated at the very last junction of the River Thames; the U-bend shape between the Isles of Dogs and Deptford has delayed the bodies that were recently drowned in their course towards the sea. This junction traditionally called 'The Lower Hope Reach' is a final state for the bodies to be found before they get immersed into the sea and drifted down in its decomposing state. Thus, the idea of the project is not to mourned or lamented about the death but more to celebrate the found.Â
Memorial of the Forgotten reflects the symbol of eternity, holds an inconsistent amount of the found in its unending cycle of movement and change.Â
