Leaving a Mark

"Nothing tells memories from ordinary moments. Only afterward do they claim remembrance, on account of their scars"

states Chris Marker in La Jetée (1962).

The loss is a deprivation, a lack of something, the absence creates a kind of emptiness, a ‘blackness’ that signs us, traces its non-presence on us, impresses us; Leaving a mark that we are not able to erase and that is impossible to hide completely or to heal.

  • Sara Marinangeli, is an italian artist working in London. Her work focuses on recurring themes, such as memory, time and loss; indelible marks that are part of everybody's life.

The analog practice gives her the chance to underline the connection between the handcraft and the passing of time. The time spent in the darkroom donate another value and greater importance to the final image.

As Brian Dillon states (In the Dark Room, 2005) the work in the darkroom becomes a metaphor of the artist's memory.

Through her practice, she intends to give new life to processes, moments, people or feeling that are part of our past and remain present through images/marks.
