Nothingness produces white snow;
Quiescence produces yellow sprouts.
The fire warm in the jade furnace,
Over the crucible flies violet mist.

The hybrid between photography and painting explores the seemingly unrecognisable non-image, image where all traces of form and figure become washed away time, light, and matter. Liquid alchemy loosens and dissolves the grip of the indexical - through paint, water, and photographic chemistry - obliterating the photographic bringing me back to the language of painting. I push, drag, and submerge liquids through the movements of my body onto the surface, burying what was once emerging through the light, creating a new thing that no longer associates itself with the photographic. I often execute in thick impasto using acrylic, oil, and handmade photosensitive emulsions, building layer upon layer, a repetition of slathers of pigments and textures which mimic ocean wave ripples and clouds of colour. No longer a spectator of light, I am becoming light - a witness to a power of resistance of another kind where one continually brings back self to nothingness.
