  • Sara Chyan is a jewellery artist renowned for her innovative exploration of a wide range of materials in crafting distinctive pieces. Her creations serve as a means of expressing personal bodily experiences and conveying her emotional state. Characterised by minimalistic aesthetics and underpinned by conceptual depth, Sara's work involves a multi-layered exploration of various subjects. She actively engages the viewer through physical interaction, adhering to the belief that function should follow form in her art. Her pieces draw inspiration from the artist's everyday experiences and offer direct responses to the human body and the surrounding environment.

Jewellery, far from being a mere decorative accessory, serves as a canvas for the expression of one's identity and emotions. In Sara's work, the choice of gallium and bismuth breaks free from the constraints of tradition. These metallic materials, with their low melting points, become the foundation for a project that seeks to gauge and represent the wearer's emotional state. This choice compels us to reevaluate the very essence of jewellery, as it extends beyond aesthetics and ventures into the realm of emotional resonance.

The pivotal role of temperature in this project is not just a technicality but a profound exploration of the human experience. The transformation of the metals from solid to liquid, spurred by temperature fluctuations, imparts a unique emotional character. This metamorphosis elevates the metallic jewellery to the realm of art, offering an innovative means of self-expression.

Sara's work encompasses a diverse array of pieces, spanning wearable jewellery, sculptural art, and functional cutlery. This artistic versatility challenges our preconceived notions of jewellery and prompts us to see it as an embodiment of artistic expression and utility.

Gallium, with its melting point at 29.76°C, engages us with its intriguing transition from solidity to fluidity, mirroring the nuanced shifts in human emotions. The delicate balance between its states resonates with the ephemerality of our emotional states, inviting us to ponder the transient nature of human feelings.

In contrast, bismuth's higher melting point at 271.5°C unveils a captivating spectacle of oxidation. The distinct crystalline forms and colours offer a tangible and artistic representation of temperature, transforming each piece into a unique artefact that not only mirrors individual emotions but also challenges conventional artistic mediums.

Sara's work beckons us to engage with jewellery as a multifaceted form of artistic expression. It challenges our understanding of materials, aesthetics, and the ever-evolving interplay between art and emotion. The fusion of innovative materials, temperature dynamics, and artistic versatility sparks a critical exploration of the boundaries of jewellery, shaping it into a profound means of self-expression and artistic discourse.
