Sam Baker

MA work

These lengths of flexible, interchangeable copper pipe are workers...they are consumers.

They whistle, hiss and devour all that they touch before expelling out a liquescent matter. The sticky deposits leak from the slices in the metalwork forging a new, material landscape; ever shifting and expanding without a centre.

‘The paradox of consistency imposed by the plasticity of wax may therefore be understood as the possibility.’

I am interested in the many ways in which wax disrupts the movement of unruly forces and a resistance between the water vapour and docile wax develops.

  • "The main focus of my research has been investigating the intangibility and pervasiveness of steam.

By contemplating steam as a physical, matter based material I am utilizing present forces to disrupt the atomised makeup of objects. I am constructing systems that attempt to trap and manipulate steam that are ultimately sentenced to fail."

Sam Baker is an artist who lives and works in London.
