A City with Fishing Nets
A City with Fishing Nets is concerned with the rigid system of a Chinese foreign-owned factory. It is an imaginary city, which is strictly hierarchical and isolated from society. It is not an ideal model of a factory or society, but a dislocated model of that reality. The model materialises the incidents of suicide, which have taken place since 2009 at the Foxconn factory. It presents the intangible, psychic aspects of the living and the dead, the invisible depression of the workers engaged in mass-production, and imagines the behavioural space of a worker in the city.
