The Hammock

For the final show projects, including The Hammock, Riikka looked at the glass art world and how it operates, not always supporting the artists working with glass despite its efforts. She was interested in the attraction that many glass artists have to the material and how that relationship translates to human interaction, loss and desire.

    Glass

  • I am an artist working primarily with glass. I am interested in glass traditions, the relationship between glass and a human being and education in the glass field. My focus is on conceptual work and research-based projects. I ask questions about the future of glass art and traditions as well as about society and human interaction.

My artistic practice is influenced by glassmaking techniques ranging from stained glass to glassblowing. I am interested in finding new ways to utilise traditional glass techniques, especially in combination with film and sound to convey messages about our society.
