Fragile Identity

Fragile Identity is an overall title for my final show work. Consisting of three projects – the interventional, the performative and the spatial, each explores the notion of fragility through a different aspect.

Waiting for the One (2015) is a video installation, based on a documentation of a performance piece under the same title, exploring vulnerability of the body of the performer in a public sphere.

My Constructed Desire (working title, 2015) is a drawing installation, focussing on the fragile construction of the female body-image.

In Time (working title, 2015) is as interventional piece, that challenges the audience's perception of value, time and their relationship to the work of art.

In short, the works revolve around the condition of being human, focussing on its corporeal quality, on the body as a medium of expression in various situations.

    MA Sculpture, 2015

  • My work has three key aspects – the interventional, the performative and the spatial. Each of these aspects reflect the fragility of the body, explored through a number of different medium. I am interested in creating work that is changing and ephemeral, like the body itself.

During interventions, I often place my work in a position where it is vulnerable to the interaction of the viewer. In the performative, I create work with my body, exploring its ability as a social medium, as a surface of interaction, as a surface of exposure, of manipulation, of guilt and shame. For spatial work, I explore installations, that sometimes take form as sculpture, but more often as site-specific work, including drawing, painting and installation, talking about other aspects of how we deal with the body in the space surrounding it, or as a place for sacred, a place for taboo.

In short, I'm interested in the condition of being human – the fragility of the body, the vulnerable nature of our corporeality.
